It’s fair to say everything that could’ve gone wrong with PES2008 went wrong indeed, from the preparation to the production, the marketing, the timing of the release…and to top it all off, the fact that FIFA completely stole the show with a tremendous FIFA08 that still remains, to this day, one of the most beloved of EA’s football catalog. Unfortunately, that was not the case at all. As both transitioned to the PlayStation3/Xbox 360 scene, few fans of the PES series could hold their excitement back in anticipation of what they believed would be the next great evolution in football gaming – and it was indeed reasonable to expect such a thing, given the circumstances. Both FIFA and PES would soon reiterate their ferocious battle for football gaming domination on the following generation of consoles, after an era in which PES came out as the undisputed best simulation of the genre on the market.
